First Reconciliation and First Eucharist


Children typically receive First Reconciliation and First Eucharist in 2nd grade after participating in 1st grade Faith Formation, 2nd grade Faith Formation, and 2nd grade Sacrament Preparation.  If your child is older, or did not begin Faith Formation until 2nd grade, please see the alternative options outlined below.


 

2nd Grade Sacrament Preparation Program


This program is designed for students in the 2nd grade who have been baptized, are enrolled in their second consecutive year of elementary faith formation, and need to receive the sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist. The 2nd grade sacrament preparation program includes the grade level appropriate faith formation program, the parent-led at-home Go, Seek, Find Curriculum and parent meetings. PLEASE NOTE, your child will be enrolled in two programs: 1) grade-level faith formation classes AND 2) the 2nd grade Sacrament Preparation Program. Have a baptized 2nd grader?

Sacramental preparation for First Reconciliation and First Eucharist requires two consecutive years of grade-level faith formation. 
If your child attended faith formation in 1st grade…Sign your child up for both 2nd grade faith formation and the 2nd Grade Sacrament Preparation Program.
After completing the Sacrament preparation requirements:

  • Reconciliation will occur in January/February with the priest.
  • First Eucharist will occur in April/May with the priest.


If your child DID NOT ATTEND faith formation in 1st grade…Sign your child up for 2nd grade faith formation classes


Have a baptized 3rd or 4th grader?


Sacramental preparation for First Reconciliation and First Eucharist requires two consecutive years of grade-level faith formation.
If your child attended Elementary faith formation last year…Sign your child up for both their grade-level Elementary faith formation class and the 
Older Elementary Sacrament Preparation Program.
After completing the required Sacrament preparation requirements:

  • Reconciliation will occur in January/February.


If your child DID NOT ATTEND Elementary faith formation last year…Sign your child up for their grade-level Elementary faith formation class.

 


Older Elementary Sacrament Preparation Program


This program is designed for students in the 3rd-5th grade who have been baptized but have not yet received the sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist. The child must be in their second consecutive year of elementary faith formation. This program involves the grade level appropriate faith formation program (in-person or online), the parent-led at-home Go, Seek, Find Curriculum, Confirmation preparation, and parent meetings. PLEASE NOTE, your child will be enrolled in two programs: 1) grade-level faith formation classes AND 2) the Older Elementary Sacramental Preparation Program. Have a baptized 5th grader?


Sacramental preparation for First Reconciliation and First Eucharist requires two consecutive years of grade-level faith formation.
If your child attended Elementary faith formation 4th grade…Sign your child up for both 5th grade faith formation class and the Older Elementary Sacrament Preparation Program.
After completing the required Sacrament preparation requirements:

  • Reconciliation will occur in January/February.

If your child DID NOT ATTEND Elementary faith formation in 4th grade…Sign your child up for both 5th grade faith formation classes and the Middle and High School Sacrament Preparation Program. (Your child will participate in the Middle and High School Sacrament Preparation Program because they will be receiving their sacraments in 6th grade.)


After completing the required Sacrament preparation requirements:

  • Reconciliation will occur in January/February of their 6th grade year.
  • First Eucharist and Confirmation will occur in their 6th grade year at the annual Confirmation Mass with the Bishop.

 

Middle and High School Sacrament Preparation Program


This two-year program is designed for students in 5th-12th grade who have been baptized but have not received the sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist. The program involves: 1) an initial meeting with a priest and Faith Formation Staff member, 2) self-paced online curriculum and assignments covering a variety of Catholic faith essentials which is concurrent with the first year of Faith Formation, and 3) a half-day Summer Sacrament Bootcamp for parents and students held in early June each year. This program is in addition to at least two consecutive years of grade-level Faith Formation classes. Upon completion, the student will receive the sacraments of First Eucharist AND Confirmation at the annual Confirmation Mass with the Bishop. Have a baptized 6th - 8th grader?


Sacramental preparation for First Reconciliation and First Eucharist requires at least two consecutive years of grade-level faith formation.
Sign your child up for both their grade-level Journey (MS faith formation) class and the Middle and High School Sacrament Preparation Program.

After completing the required Sacrament preparation requirements:

  • Reconciliation will occur in January/February of the second year of the sacrament prep program.
  • First Eucharist and Confirmation will occur in the second year of the sacrament prep program at the annual Confirmation Mass with the Bishop.


Have a baptized 9th - 11th grader?


Sacramental preparation for First Reconciliation and First Eucharist requires at least two consecutive years of grade-level faith formation.
Sign your child up for both their grade-level Outcry (HS faith formation) class and the Middle and High School Sacrament Preparation Program.
After completing the required Sacrament preparation requirements:

  • Reconciliation will occur in January/February of the second year of the sacrament prep program.
  • First Eucharist and Confirmation will occur in the second year of the sacrament prep program at the annual Confirmation Mass with the Bishop.



Have a baptized 12th grader?


Sacramental preparation for First Reconciliation and First Eucharist requires at least two consecutive years of grade-level faith formation.
