The Finance Council is a consultative body whose mission is to assist the pastor in the administration of parish resources, provide assistance in the preparation of the parish’s annual budget, review parish financial statements so as to assure that expenses are within the limits of income received and available, and to assist the pastor in the preparation of an annual financial report of revenues and expenditures for dissemination to parishioners. Other responsibilities include the study of and making recommendations for increasing revenues and minimizing expenses within the parish. The Council is also consulted on all expenditures other than normal operating expenditures, including those of a capital nature, and the structure and amount of parish debt so as to minimize related interest costs.
The Finance Council closely interacts with the Pastoral Council to assure the pastor and the parish membership that finances are available to support the parish’s goals and objectives. Like the Pastoral Council, the Finance Council is a unit of service, not authority.
